I hear daily from my clients "Why can't I style my hair like you?" so I thought I would share what I tell them.
First things first, don't be so hard on yourself if you can't get it the first try, you are not a trained hairstylist it's ok. Everything great takes time and lots of practice. Ok so here is the list where you must begin. Do you have the right?
- The right hair products: shampoo, conditioner, styling creams, hairsprays etc.. Not all products are the same. Store products are way different than salon products, even if the name is the same several stores buy at wholesale knock off brands claiming to be the real thing. Nothing is guaranteed unless bought at a reputable salon establishment. It's important to pick the right products for the right style. If you want straight hair for example a curling product would not do. If you have fine hair a thick heavy paste would not do. So ask your stylist what are they using when they are styling your hair the way you like it? Sometimes the stylist forgets if you know about products so ask away. They will enjoy educating you about products.
- The right hair tools: dryer, flat iron, curling iron, comb, brush etc. Again the hairstylist tools used in the salon are made professionally to last longer and endure a lot of abuse. Your tools are used only once a day when a stylist tools could be used up to 15 x's a day (depending on how busy they are). Their tools are made to get hotter and endure more. So if you want a quick blow dry and a smooth flat iron, it wouldn't hurt to upgrade to a professional salon model. It will last you longer and will get the job done quicker. If you are unsure take in your tools to the salon and your stylist will be happy to educate you on what will work right for you.
- The right amount of time: No great style comes in seconds unless you are bald! The average person will take 15 to 30 minutes to comb, dry and style their hair. If it isn't, your hair is really short or you don't care what it looks like. You must take time with your hair to master the techniques used to create the great style you are trying to achieve. If your hair is taking more than 30 minutes and it isn't long; you might need a style class or a new hair cut. Again ask your stylist what is right for you.
- The right chemical service: Any chemical service, color, relaxer or perm is very important. Sometimes a great color will get just the right amount of body with a little hilites or maybe even a body wave. A great cut is accented by color, relaxer or perm. Just like makeup on a face. Every face is beautiful and it never hurts to add a little lip gloss:)
- The right hair extensions: Sometimes you have to get out the big guns with some hairstyles. If you want thick, long, easy hair this is definitely the trick. Every celebrity knows this. They are not all the same, if done incorrectly it could hurt you more than help you. I recommend the strand by strand technique we use here at our salon. But remember the right tools and products still apply. Again ask your stylist.
In closing I hope this helped if you would like to add a comment hit on the comment link and it will be posted. Enjoy your styles!!!!!
